Optimised Minds with Nicola Moffat

Meet Nicola Moffat

Energy Bureau Analyst

What are your roles and responsibilities at Optimised?

I’m an Energy Bureau Analyst in our Bureau team. It’s my responsibility to ensure that the data we hold for my clients is up to date and complete. I’m also responsible for validating bills, batching for payment, and recharging to tenants on some of the larger sites.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I generally can be found validating invoices for payment, running reports for clients to analyse their costs and consumption, and updating data on Envizi.

What do you like most about the work that you do?

I was quite a big maths nerd when I was at school, so I’ve been enjoying getting to grips with Excel and learning to build formulas to improve the work I do.

What do you do to be sustainable in the workplace?

I went veggie 8 years to ago to reduce my carbon footprint by looking at the food I consume, and any lunches I bring are always in old washed out food tubs and jars. My colleagues were pretty confused when I pulled a sandwich out of an old butter tub! I’ve recently been thrifting my clothes to make sure I’m not contributing (too much!) to the fast fashion industry.

If you could learn one new professional skill, what would it be?

I’m keen to learn a new language, but my Duolingo streak certainly isn’t going well.

What is your personal mantra?

I don’t really have one, but if I had to pick something I say a lot, I think it would be “I’ve got this!”

What motivates you at work?

Working for a company whose goal is Net Zero is a pretty big one! On a smaller day-to-day scale, I always have my to-do list next to me, and being able to look back at the end of the day and see how much I’ve crossed off feels pretty good.

Do you speak more than one language?

I got my French GSCE and recently have been trying to learn some Spanish. But I’d still say no!

Who is your hero?

I always find it hard to answer this question as everyone is problematic in their various ways! There’s no non-cliched answer to this, so I’m going to go with my mum. She’s battled cancer, nursed various family members through sickness, and cancelled retirement to work at our local hospital all through the pandemic. She finally retired about a month ago and I couldn’t be prouder.
