How are we prioritising the wellbeing of our employees?

A fundamental part of the B Corp ethos is looking after your workers, and this subject is rigorously investigated as part of the impact assessment. Here at Optimised Energy, a certified B Corp, our employees are the backbone of our business, and we make it our priority to provide them with excellent working conditions. Last year, we introduced several new policies focusing on employee wellbeing, including:

Mental Health First Aid

Several members of our Optimised team are now accredited Mental Health First Aiders and are able to provide assistance to staff who are in need of mental health support until appropriate professional help is received or the issue is resolved.

Improved Sick Leave Pay

We have improved our Sickness Absence Policy to include full pay for 3-10 days, depending on length of service with the company, followed by Statutory Sick Pay. This improvement allows our staff to rest and recover without their salary suffering.

Buying and Selling Annual Leave

Our Buying and Selling Annual Leave Policy allows our employees the opportunity to buy and sell up to 3 days a year, helping our people balance their home and work life.

Health & Safety

We have completed COVID-19 risk assessments in each of our offices and implemented social distancing measures to make sure our staff are safe.

We have also installed Airthings devices in most of our offices, which record air quality data every 15 minutes, measuring and providing insights into 7 different markers. They also analyse the risk of airborne viruses and provide a risk score out of 10, which helps us protect our employees and give them some peace of mind.

Our conformance with ISO 9001 ensures that we meet a rigorous set of standards in relation to H&S. Each month our internal H&S team meets to review our compliance calendar and make sure that we are meeting all our obligations.

Improved Parental Policies

Last year, we introduced improvements to our parental policies. These included paying the first 6 weeks of Maternity Pay at full pay and the next 6 weeks at 50% pay, as well as paying 2 weeks of Paternity Pay at full pay. These improvements also apply to adoption leave.

Becoming a parent is an exciting but also daunting prospect. We hope that these more inclusive policies will help new parents adjust and bond with their new arrival(s) during what is such an important time.

Real Living Wage

At Optimised Energy, we believe that people deserve to be paid fairly for their work, which is why we are proud to be an accredited Living Wage Employer. All of our staff, third-party contractors and suppliers now receive at least a Real Living Wage, which is an independently calculated hourly rate of pay that is based on the actual cost of living, and is higher than the government’s minimum, or National Living Wage.

It has recently increased to £9.90 per hour in the UK, with a higher rate of £11.05 for London, reflecting the higher costs of living in the capital.

Flexible Working & Dress Code

We have implemented a flexible working policy, with work split between the office and home, which we believe benefits productivity and work life balance, and a flexible dress code, because we believe that you should feel comfortable when you’re at work.
