GET STARTED WITH ESOS

What is ESOS?

ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) is a mandatory energy assessment scheme for qualifying organisations within the UK.

Administered by the Environment Agency, ESOS requires eligible organisations to review their energy use every 4 years, which include audits of energy used in buildings, industrial processes and transport.

Do you qualify for ESOS?

Businesses likely to be in scope for ESOS meet one the following criteria:

Operate with 250 or more employees

or

Have an annual turnover in excess of £44M and a balance sheet in excess of £38M

and

Are part of a corporate group which includes an undertaking which meets either of the above criteria

Organisations that are fully covered by ISO 50001 do not need to carry out an ESOS assessment but you must still notify the Environment Agency.

DOES YOUR BUSINESS QUALIFY?

What if I don't comply?

Non-compliances, or failure to submit on time, could incur a fixed penalty charge of £50,000 from the Environment Agency. Fines are set to increase for each day of non-compliance.
