GOT A QUESTION ABOUT REGULATION & COMPLIANCE?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is ESOS?

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme, or ESOS, is a mandatory energy assessment scheme for qualifying organisations in the UK. Businesses qualify if they employ over 250 people or if the annual turnover is more than £44 million and an annual balance sheet total above £38 million.

Qualifying organisations must carry out ESOS assessments every 4 years. These audits include the energy used by their buildings, industrial processes, and transport, to identify cost-effective energy saving measures.

Optimised has worked with thousands of ESOS clients, identifying savings of around £20 million. The deadline for Phase 3 has been extended to 5th June 2024, allowing more time for organisations to meet the new reporting requirements that are aimed at driving greater action on energy efficiency.

  • What is SECR?

Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting (SECR) was introduced in 2019, to replace the Carbon Reduction Commitment Scheme (CRC). It improves visibility of carbon reporting and encourage energy efficiency in businesses.

SECR requires obligated organisations to report their energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions within their financial accounts to Companies House.

Optimised helps its clients stay up to date with emissions reporting in your annual financial disclosure.

  • What are CCAs?

Climate Change Agreements, or CCAs, are voluntary agreements for energy-intensive sectors. Manufacturers with eligible processes, can receive reductions of up to 90% on Climate Change Levy (CCL) in return for committing to pre-determined energy efficiency targets.

Optimised oversee the compliance and reporting process, from registration to milestone submissions including onsite audits.

  • What is TCFD?

TCFD stands for Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures. It was set up by the Financial Stability Board to improve and increase reporting of climate-related financial information, which is mandatory for large UK organisations.

Optimised can conduct gap analyses and implement specialist TCFD measures and reporting to identify and manage climate-related risks and opportunities.

  • What is NABERS?

NABERS is a rating program that classified the energy rating of offices. This helps building owners to understand their building’s performance compared to a benchmark. It originates in Australia and the acronym stands for National Australian Built Environment Rating System.

Optimised is a licensed NABERS UK Assessor and has a team of building services experts who carry out physical assessments of buildings to collect and verify data in line with the NABERS Energy for Offices rating. Optimised also offers advisory and engineering services to help buildings enhance their rating over time.
